How Many People Are Born Every Day in 2026?

Roughly 380,000 babies arrive every day — more than four every second. Here is how that number is estimated and why it keeps changing.

The Daily Birth Number

Around 380,000 babies are born across the world every day in 2026, which works out to roughly 15,800 per hour and about 4.4 every second. The figure comes from applying the global crude birth rate — close to 17 births per 1,000 people per year — to a world population of just over 8.2 billion. Because births are spread unevenly across time zones, the counter never pauses: while one region sleeps, another is in the middle of its busiest hours.

Where Most Births Happen

India, China, Nigeria, Pakistan and Indonesia together account for roughly a third of all births. Sub-Saharan Africa has the highest birth rates in the world, with several countries above 35 births per 1,000 people, while Japan, South Korea, Italy and Spain sit below 8. That gap is the single biggest driver of how the global population map will look by 2050.

Births Versus Deaths

Roughly 170,000 people die each day, so the world adds about 210,000 people per day through natural increase alone. That is the number our live world population counter uses. Natural increase has been slowing since the 1960s: the global fertility rate has fallen from about 5 children per woman to roughly 2.2, barely above replacement level.

Why the Number Is an Estimate

No global registry reports births in real time. Our counter projects from annual United Nations and World Bank estimates and spreads them evenly across the year, so the running total is a well-grounded projection rather than a measured tally. Read our methodology page for the exact formulas used.
